LEARN OUR HISTORY
Dickson Outfitters was founded in 1902. It is the oldest operating hunting outfitting company in Yukon, Canada. The company was started by our Grandfather, Thomas Dickson, who came to the Yukon in 1896 as a member of the North West Mounted Police for the historic Klondike Gold Rush. After 12 years of service, he headed by horseback towards Kluane country with his wife Louise George, a beautiful coastal Tlingit First Nation woman originally from the Haines, Alaska area. They settled on the north end of Kluane Lake where they had 13 children, homesteaded and started outfitting in the Yukon.
While hunting, trapping, fishing and farming were a way of life, they made a living from the land and instilled these traditions upon the children from a young age. Six of them went on to successfully own and operate outfits throughout the Yukon. Buck Dickson (my Uncle), the eldest son, took over the same area in the late 1940’s. When it became necessary to form registered outfitting areas, Buck’s became concession area #10. He later sold it to his brother Richard Dickson (my father) in 1959. Thirty years later in 1989, Richard sold the outfit to his son David Dickson (myself) who currently owns and operates the business with his family. Dave always had a dream to one day become an outfitter, and with a lot of hard work his dream has come true.

ABOUT US
Dave started going on the hunts in the 1970’s and then started guiding when he turned 18. He is in the concession area year-round as he continues the family business as a third generational outfitter, guide, horseman and trapper. His family – Teena, Teah and Thomas are all very passionate about the Yukon as they are all involved with the day to day operations of the business. They raise their own horses and treat them as part of the family as well.
The Dickson’s were recently honored with the Frank Golata ‘2018 Outstanding Outfitter of the Year’ award by the Wild Sheep Foundation.
